Jericho Systems CTO David Staggs to Speak at June 2014 ISSA-HIMSS Healthcare Information Security Seminar in Austin
Jericho Systems Corporation, developer of award-winning healthcare data security solutions, announced that CTO David Staggs will speak at the 3rd Annual Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) – Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Healthcare Information Security Seminar to be held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Lecture Hall in Austin, Texas.
The theme for this year's seminar is “Open access? How private (and secure) are your medical records?” Mr. Staggs' presentation is titled “Privacy with Dynamic Patient Review.” He will speak about lessons learned from a Data Segmentation for Privacy (DS4P) pilot sponsored by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information (ONC) Standards and Interoperability (S&I) Framework.
The DS4P pilot showed how data segmentation and EnterSpace Exchange content filtering technology can enable consumers to set up computable privacy policies (consent directives) and review requests for protected health information (PHI). By increasing data security and leveraging consumers as informal auditors of system activity, this approach could help healthcare organizations identify breaches more quickly and achieve HIPAA and meaningful use requirements.
“HIPAA and meaningful use have increased interest in healthcare cybersecurity solutions,” said David Staggs, CTO of Jericho Systems. “By engaging with healthcare consumers in a transparent system, we protect patient privacy and help identify potential medical fraud.”
Also speaking at the event is Nora Belcher, Executive Director, Texas e-Health Alliance. In her former role as deputy director of the Texas Office of Budget, Planning and Policy, Ms. Belcher oversaw the multi-billion dollar budget for Texas Health and Human Services. Free tickets to the seminar are available from the ISSA-HIMSS Austin, Texas event website.
“The Jericho-UT Austin pilot used EnterSpace Exchange technology to secure sensitive PHI and empower patients by adding transparency,” said Jericho Systems CEO Brynn Mow. “Healthcare executives know that improving data security and enhancing customer experience ultimately benefits the bottom line.”
